Dr. Ekta Singh’s research predominantly focuses on English Language Teaching (ELT), a field that has gained increased relevance in the context of both national and global educational trends. With English being a core component of the curriculum in engineering, management, and other professional institutes across India, there is a growing need to ensure that ELT courses are grounded in solid research frameworks. However, despite the availability of extensive literature on needs analysis in language education, many institutions still lack a research-informed approach to curriculum design—often resulting in ineffective or generalized syllabi.

Dr. Singh’s doctoral research addresses this gap by placing learners’ needs at the center of curriculum development, guided by Hutchinson and Waters’ (1987) model of needs analysis. Her study critically examines students’ language learning needs from their own perspectives, advocating for a learner-centered methodology in ELT course design.

In addition to needs-based curriculum development, Dr. Singh has also explored broader dimensions of ELT such as technological innovations in language teaching and action research in language classrooms. Her ongoing research aims to further investigate various dimensions of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of English language instruction in professional education.

She also has a keen interest in entrepreneurial communication, and is actively engaged in integrating its key components into the B.Tech curriculum, with the aim of equipping students with communication skills that are essential for innovation, start-up culture, and professional success in contemporary work environments.
