Dr. Gaurav Patel is a design educator and researcher specializing in Visual Communication and Visual Ergonomics. He holds a Ph.D. in Visual Communication from PDPM IIITDM Jabalpur, where his doctoral research focused on ergonomic interventions in the design of pesticide pictograms for agricultural use in Central India. With a strong interdisciplinary foundation bridging engineering and design, he also holds a Master of Design in Visual Communication and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Patel has served as an Assistant Professor, teaching courses such as Design Research Methodology, Visual Ergonomics, Infographics, and Design Process. He has also supported undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as a Teaching Assistant during his academic journey. His research interests lie in semiotics, wayfinding systems, and the design of safety and information graphics tailored to diverse user needs.
His scholarly contributions include four SCI/SCIE-indexed journal papers, addressing issues like symbol comprehensibility and the ergonomic design of pictograms for public health and safety. He has also presented applied design projects that incorporate user-centered research and ergonomic analysis, showcased on platforms like Behance.
Beyond academics, Dr. Patel has been actively involved in research development programs, student committees, and international design workshops in collaboration with institutions such as MOFA Japan and SERB India. His hobbies—wildlife photography, sketching, poetry writing, and cycling—reflect his observational and creative skills, which inform his approach to visual communication. He has joined JIIT Noida in July 2025 as Assistant Professor (Senior grade).
